Standards for online web authors: Pause before you send!
In today’s world, we have made so much progress that we can get any kind of information immediately anywhere across the globe. In other words, the internet comes handy for delivering all sorts or any sort of information. The World Wide Web (www) is a universe, a world of its own. The amount of information that is pouring in everyday from the world of web is an overwhelming amount. Most of this information is in the form of web content on any subject that can be imagined, be it travel, current affairs, sports, entertainment, or any other field.
Web content is the articles that you read when you visit different websites across the web. They are the communications, the explanations, the discussions etc. This web content is the work of a content writer or a web content writer. The work of web content writers can be divided into two main categories, self written and ghostwritten. Self written web content is where the website owner is the web content writer himself/herself or when the articles in different websites are published with credits to the content writer (such as in this website). Ghostwritten web content is when the content is written by a ghostwriter on behalf of the website owner or the website manager. Ghostwritten web content is published by the name of the website owner and not with credits to the content writer. Ghostwritten or self written web content, either of them are written by either a freelance writer or a web content writer working for a company of writers. Freelance content writers work through different freelance writing websites like www.freelancer.com, www.odesk.com and www.elance.com.
There is a certain code of conduct in this deadline oriented business. Besides the obvious requirements of completing article writing projects after proper internet research, there are certain other interdependent do’s and don’ts related to article writing. These parameters together constitute the ‘pause before you send ‘conditions of web content writing. Here is a useful list of these conditions.
- Don’t treat your information lightly: Whether you are ghostwriting or publishing by your own name, the responsibility of writing a good article is yours. You have the responsibility of communicating with an unknown reader in a meaningful way. Of course, you should ornament your article with light hearted humor and smiley’s , yet you should recognize the responsibility of your article toward the World Wide Web, or in a connected context with the world. The world in fact is now the World Wide Web. You should verify and authenticate every information that you provide in your article.
- Do not plagiarize: Quoting from others is one thing and plagiarism is another thing. You should always check that you are not sending a plagiarized article. Even when you are writing on the basis of a single web research page, like a wiki page, make sure that your article is written in an original language. This demand for originality is a key parameter of the entire ghostwriting business.
- Provide copyright free images: Using copyright free images is a key parameter of web content writing. Copyright free images are available from different websites.
- Don’t convey any abusive or subtle negative vibes through your writing: The aim of the article should be positive and contribute to the web in a meaningful way. Even if you are contradicting an opinion in an article, you will have to do so in a subtly positive way so that the reader feels comfortable with the article that you have written.
The aforementioned four parameters are simple guidelines for a web content writing. They have been created with the intention of assisting the web content writers in their glorious job of content writing.
